View both Mary Griep’s multicultural collection of drawings and mixed media in Anastylosis and Amy Toscani’s playful sculptures in Everyday Epic: the Wild, Weird, Wacky World of Amy Toscani at The Catherine G. Murphy Gallery through February and March. Griep’s work varies from graphic drawings of cathedrals to colorful mixed media of mosques. Toscani’s work has been featured around the Midwest and will soon include a newly commissioned permanent installation for the Lowertown Artway Project in Saint Paul.

Regional artists, Andrew Fletcher and Jo Severson, are showing their work at Seasons on St. Croix for the majority of February. Fletcher’s paintings are exemplary of Midwestern simplicity through his clean and authentic portrayals of common everyday beauty. Similarly simple and elegant, Severson’s well-known pottery unique in its sturdy, functionality will also be shown.

Plainspoken as the show title, potter Wayne Branum and painter Peter Presnail exhibit their respective works in this dichotomy of architecture and Midwest inspired work. Raymond Avenue Gallery owner and artist, Joseph Brown, will also be continuing to show his clay and latex sculptures in the lower level during the exhibition.

Walking: The New Forests of Thoreau’s America

January 30 through June 1
Opening Reception: February 2, 6 to 8 p.m.

Examine the transformation of the North American landscape since Henry David Thoreau wrote his essay “Walking” in this installation by Kenneth Steinbach. Using European Buckthorn—a non-native plant introduced to North America around the same time “Walking” was written—Steinbach plays with modern concepts of ownership and control, challenging visitors to reevaluate their relationships with nature.
