Walking: The New Forests of Thoreau’s America
January 30 through June 1
Opening Reception: February 2, 6 to 8 p.m.
Examine the transformation of the North American landscape since Henry David Thoreau wrote his essay “Walking” in this installation by Kenneth Steinbach. Using European Buckthorn—a non-native plant introduced to North America around the same time “Walking” was written—Steinbach plays with modern concepts of ownership and control, challenging visitors to reevaluate their relationships with nature.
