THE SOAP FACTORY
Ten Second Film Festival
July 4 after the St. Anthony Main fireworks (around 10:15 p.m.)
The Fourth of July is a day to celebrate our history, heritage and inalienable right to create as many dubiously crafted, low tech films as we please. In this spirit, the Ten Second Film Festival is back for a fifth summer. The festival drew 3,000 movie-goers last year. The event will be emceed by Barb Abney from The Current. The Debut will be playing live, acting as pit-band and playing a live set. Note that this is not a family show.

CVA
Drawn from Practice
July 24 through August 8
Reception: July 23, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Mike Reed has attended rehearsals throughout the Twin Cities where he has documented dancers, singers, musicians, directors and even hair stylists. His work explores how the concept of practice may be translated from one artist to another, fueling creative insight from artist to artist. The results are beautiful visual interpretations that capture the linear gesture of effort, skill and non-sentimental beauty.

TYCHMAN SHAPIRO GALLERY AT SABES JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER
Concealed/Revealed
July 9 through August 27
Opening reception: July 9, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Emily Isenberg’s life-size charcoal drawings explore the complex structure of the human body. Inspired by the figurative works of Alfred Leslie, Richard Diebenkorn and Alice Neal, Isenberg uses expressive, bold and gestural mark making to energize her figures. There is a definite liveliness to the work, defining the tenuous relationship between spirit and substance.

SUSAN HENSEL GALLERY
Pentimento Books & Indeterminacy

This exhibition is by one of the most prolific and conceptual book artists living in the world today: Claire Jeanine Satin. Influenced by the abstract methods of friend and contemporary, artist/composer John Cage, Satin uses automatic writing processes and transparent materials in order to express ideas of original language, transformation and the absence of certainty in an ongoing series of more than 100 book-like-objects.
