Call for Artists

Home for Life Animal Sanctuary, a care-for-life animal sanctuary based in Stillwater, MN, is looking for artists and creative types to design elaborate doghouses or create fanciful designs on dog or cat statues for our annual holiday event at the Mall of America. This year’s event called “Art of The Dog” will feature the display of dog houses and statues in front of Nordstrom’s during one of the busiest times at the Mall—great exposure for your work. Some of the houses and statues will be designed in collaboration with local celebrities and artists.

Artists have the option of purchasing their own house or statue or Home for Life will provide the basic statue or house to work with. Dog houses will be simple medium sized cedar doghouses on which the artist can design; fibreglass statues of the dog breed or cat or other pet of your choice will be provided by Cowpainters for the artist to design upon (like the Peanuts statues). The statues are realistic, life size models of dogs, cats and other pets with various dog breeds available.

The doghouses and statues will be displayed beginning November 22, 2009 thru January 3, 2010 in front of Nordstrom’s Court at the Mall of America. Doghouses and statues will be for sale with all proceeds benefiting the animals at Home for Life.

The art work needs to be delivered to the Mall of America by November 21 along with an artists’ statement.
